Christmas at Patriot Acres was nothing short of magical this year. We hosted family for a wonderful Christmas Eve celebration, filling our home with laughter, love, and the delicious aroma of my grandma’s homemade gravy. I made three batches of this cherished family recipe the day prior and turned it into lasagnas—a feast we shared with loved ones and gifted to our neighbors. There’s something so special about spreading joy through food during the holidays (and making my Grandmother proud)!

Christmas morning was pure excitement as Parker tore through wrapping paper to discover his gifts. True, our mischievous Elf on the Shelf, bid us farewell, leaving behind fond memories of her December antics. From her silly pranks to her sweet surprises, True brought so much magic to our home this season. Every year, as Parker grows older, I find myself holding on to the wonder of Christmas a little tighter, cherishing the sparkle in his eyes and the magic in his heart.
After the morning chaos, we headed to my parents’ house for Christmas evening, where we enjoyed more family time and delicious food. It was the perfect way to round out the day, but I’ll admit, by the end of it all, I was completely exhausted.
One highlight of this season was stepping out of my baking comfort zone to make my husband’s favorite cookies—snowballs. They turned out so good, and seeing his delight made the effort more than worth it. It’s these little moments of joy that make the holidays so special.
Now, as I start taking down the decorations and packing them away for another year, I can’t help but feel a bit melancholy. The house is returning to its normal state of organized chaos, but there’s an undeniable sadness that the season is over. We spend weeks, sometimes months, building up to Christmas, and in the blink of an eye, it’s behind us as we prepare to welcome the new year.
Am I the only one who feels this way? To all the other moms out there, do you find yourself longing to hold on to the magic just a little longer? While I’m excited for the fresh start of a new year, and to clear the decorations donning the mantel, I’ll be carrying the warmth and memories of this Christmas season with me for a long time to come.
